About the exam

Professional Cloud Architect

The Google Professional Cloud Architect certification is for people who design and manage solutions on Google Cloud (GCP). Google recommends 3 or more years of industry experience, including at least 1 year designing and managing Google Cloud solutions. If that describes your work, this practice test shows how well your knowledge matches the topics Google covers. The exam guide organizes the content into six sections: designing and planning a cloud solution architecture; managing and provisioning a cloud solution infrastructure; designing for security and compliance; analyzing and optimizing technical and business processes; managing implementation; and ensuring solution and operations excellence. Each exam includes 2 case studies that make up 20 to 30 percent of it, and this practice test does not copy them. Our questions are short, self-contained and original, with exactly one correct answer.

Our questions are original, written from the Google Professional Cloud Architect exam guide and Google Cloud documentation, and each answer is explained. Studying nearby topics? What to focus on for the Professional Cloud Architect

  • Choosing a service that works but ignores a stated limit on cost, latency, recovery time or operational effort.
  • Mixing up look-alike services or network options that sound similar but solve different problems.
  • Missing security details, such as which access roles a team should get and how access should be limited.
  • Reading the requirements too quickly, when case-study style questions reward catching every constraint.
  • Read the Google Cloud documentation for the services behind each section, and take notes on the trade-offs.
  • Take this free practice test one section at a time, read every explanation, then retake your weakest section.

Sample Professional Cloud Architect practice questions

Three questions pulled straight from the bank, with the answer shown. For the timed, no-peeking version, use the quiz above.

Question 1 · Designing and planning a cloud solution architecture
Leadership says the order system must be serving customers again within 20 minutes of an outage. Which disaster recovery metric states this requirement?
  • Service level agreement (SLA) credit rate
  • Recovery time objective (RTO)
  • Mean time between failures (MTBF)
  • Total cost of ownership (TCO)

Why: The recovery time objective is the maximum acceptable length of time an application can be offline, which is exactly a 20-minute return-to-service target. Mean time between failures describes how often failures occur, not how much downtime is tolerated.

Question 2 · Designing and planning a cloud solution architecture
A research lab has 700 TB at a remote site with a slow uplink. Uploading would take months, so it wants to ship the data physically to Google for loading into Cloud Storage. Which service fits?
  • Cloud VPN with more tunnels
  • Storage Transfer Service over the uplink
  • Cloud Router with more BGP sessions
  • Transfer Appliance

Why: Transfer Appliance is a high-capacity storage device you ship to a Google upload facility, where the data is uploaded to Cloud Storage. The online options all depend on the slow uplink the lab is trying to avoid.

Question 3 · Managing and provisioning a cloud solution infrastructure
A bank already runs a Dedicated Interconnect connection to Google Cloud, and its policy now requires that traffic on it be encrypted. What should the architect add?
  • HA VPN over Cloud Interconnect attachments
  • Private Google Access enabled on each subnet
  • Custom route advertisements on Cloud Router
  • Cloud NAT gateways in each connected region

Why: Google documents HA VPN over Cloud Interconnect as a documented way to add encryption to a Dedicated or Partner Interconnect connection. Cloud NAT, Private Google Access and route advertisements do not encrypt the link.
